From the Airport by Car
The first sign to look for is Livorno

Keep to the left as you leave the airport immediately passing through a type of roundabout go straight still keeping left you will see a Y junction after approx 40 yds follow the sign to Livorno bearing to the right.

All the above is within 150 yds of the airport
Filter onto the main road going straight, mostly keeping to the left hand lane, till you reach the toll barrier.

Take a ticket look for a right turn off to Florence
Follow this road at the central road sign number 151 turn off Right and continue down the motorway till you reach the 2nd turn off for Lucca on the right called, Lucca est
Go through barrier

Off the Motorway head for Lucca Centro. Follow the signs for the ‘Centro’ of the town.
Then follow signs for Castelnuovo di Garfagnana/Abetone and you will arrive at the city walls traveling clockwise on this ring road.

Follow around the walls until you come to signs at a roundabout for Castelnuovo di G and Abetone/Barga . Here, having come off the roundabout, keep in the left-hand lane, as you will be turning off to the left at the next roundabout in about 100 metres or so.
Having gone round the roundabout move to the right hand lane as the road you want is to the right at the end of this straight road.

Now keep going straight out of town. After about 4/5 kilometres you will pass the Supermarket ‘Esselunga’ which will be on your right. Keep going straight at this junction through the villages following the signs to Abetone. The river will be on your left.

Past the ‘Ponte del Madellena’ (fantastic bridge on the left) you will eventually come to an Agip petrol station on your right and just after this you turn left to Aulla (no longer following the Abetone signs, as from this point on you don’t want to know about Abetone).
The road is the ss445.

Go through to Fornoli. Follow the signs to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana ss445. soon after you will see down to the left a roundabout asyou come over a hump.

On this roundabout wiggle slightly to the left and then almost immediately off to the right following the signs to Barga. Keep going through to Calavorno, Ghivizzano, Piano di Correlia etc etc till you come to Ponte all’Ania.

Go through there and follow the straight road that leads out of there. Go past the garden centre on your right, past a sell-all shop on your left (camping stuff, ladders etc) go round the bend that bears right, a Garage is now on your left. Now on your right you will see a small sign to Filecchio.

You need follow this road turning almost like a z bend back on yourself to the right. Follow this road all the way up the hill until you come to a fork in the road. Bear left up to the village.
In the centre of the village there are rubbish bins on the right and the shop/café in front of you. Go to the right of this shop but remember you must keep heading up the hill so at this point pass the shop keeping it to you left and follow the road to the left.

Keep going through the gap between houses and you will come to a sort of T-junction with a house in front of you.

Bear to the left and 200 metres on you will come to another T-junction where you turn right.
From now on keep going up through the gap between the houses,
Just keep going up and eventually where the road bears to the right after passing a crash barrier on your left you will see a carport/garage with a sign Il Fabbro on your left .
Park here and walk down the drive
